92: The Night (سُورَةُ اللَّيۡلِ)

1	By the Night as it conceals (the light); بسم الله الرحمن الرحيم والليل إذا يغشى Wallaili izaa yaghshaa
2	By the Day as it appears in glory; والنهار إذا تجلى Wannahaari izaa tajalla
3	By (the mystery of) the creation of male and female;- وما خلق الذكر والأنثى Wa maa khalaqaz zakara wal unthaa
4	Verily, (the ends) ye strive for are diverse. إن سعيكم لشتى Inna sa’yakum lashattaa
5	So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), فأما من أعطى واتقى Fa ammaa man a’taa wattaqaa
6	And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- وصدق بالحسنى Wa saddaqa bil husnaa
7	We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Bliss. فسنيسره لليسرى Fasanu yassiruhoo lilyusraa
8	But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, وأما من بخل واستغنى Wa ammaa mam bakhila wastaghnaa
9	And gives the lie to the best,- وكذب بالحسنى Wa kazzaba bil husnaa
10	We will indeed make smooth for him the path to Misery; فسنيسره للعسرى Fasanu yassiruhoo lil’usraa
11	Nor will his wealth profit him when he falls headlong (into the Pit). وما يغني عنه ماله إذا تردى Wa maa yughnee ‘anhu maaluhooo izaa taraddaa
12	Verily We take upon Ourselves to guide, إن علينا للهدى Inna ‘alainaa lal hudaa
13	And verily unto Us (belong) the End and the Beginning. وإن لنا للآخرة والأولى Wa inna lanaa lal Aakhirata wal oolaa
14	Therefore do I warn you of a Fire blazing fiercely; فأنذرتكم نارا تلظى Fa anzartukum naaran talazzaa
15	None shall reach it but those most unfortunate ones لا يصلاها إلا الأشقى Laa yaslaahaaa illal ashqaa
16	Who give the lie to Truth and turn their backs. الذي كذب وتولى Allazee kazzaba wa tawallaa
17	But those most devoted to Allah shall be removed far from it,- وسيجنبها الأتقى Wa sa yujannnabuhal atqaa
18	Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, الذي يؤتي ماله يتزكى Allazee yu’tee maalahoo yatazakkaa
19	And have in their minds no favour from anyone for which a reward is expected in return, وما لأحد عنده من نعمة تجزى Wa maa li ahadin ‘indahoo min ni’matin tujzaaa
20	But only the desire to seek for the Countenance of their Lord Most High; إلا ابتغاء وجه ربه الأعلى Illab tighaaa’a wajhi rabbihil a ‘laa
21	And soon will they attain (complete) satisfaction. ولسوف يرضى Wa lasawfa yardaa
